Collecting sports cards is something that creates a bond between Dads and sons everywhere, it has in my family as I know get to experience sports card box opening, and going over our collections and actually enjoying my kids as they now begin to understand sports more than ever before.  You noticed how I said our collections…Well at least I can lead them to believe that they are theirs too.

Michael Jordan Cards, Nice Hobby Investment – You Can’t Go Wrong!

Michael Jordan was part of the “Big Three”, that kept NBA basketball going. I can’t remember them all, but I want to say it was Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and possibly Charles Barkley. I could be wrong, but I believe that was the talk back then in the 1990’s.

For me as a collector, and I was a huge L.A. Lakers fan, clearly it was Jordan. Fleer Basketball cards, are the corner stone of any Michael Jordan collection, especially in the last 7 years where Star Company basketball cards became non-gradable by most of the legitimate card companies. Counterfeiting was the main reason for the lack of Star Company basketball cards being graded, although I have seen a resurgence of PSA graded Star Company basketball cards of late.

If you wanted to stay on the safe side, I recommend the Fleer Basketball cards and Michael Jordan, the 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card has become the formidable one, putting away 10 of these for a rainy day would be nice, if you can afford graded even better, don’t try going lower than an PSA or BGS 8.

If you can find the Michael Jordan Star Company basketball cards graded then by all means, have at them. Just expect to pay a pretty penny. These cards do not come cheap, there are also a few different versions of the 1986 Star Company Michael Jordan, basketball cards.

Try making a nice run of MJ Fleer cards, starting with the rookie and then move on up, there also some nice odd ball cards that should add nice conversational pieces, one of my favorites is the 1996 Topps Embossed Basketball Michael Jordan card, sporting the jersey #18. Nice piece, one to have graded for sure. These have many flaws, so to have a BGS 9.5, or PSA 10 would be noteworthy. The recession might be the right time to start collecting some of the autographed cards that he has signed, I would even try selling some less desirable cards to obtain these. Most of these, depending on the limited amount go for $600.00, those that are not numbered go for about $180.00 to about $250.00

Most of the truly legitimate autographed cards of Jordan come via the Upper Deck company and they are exclusive, there are quite a few limited to the number of his jersey #23. These too are pretty expensive. The range about $800.00

Michael Jordan should be the corner stone of any sports card collection, unless you do not want the greatest basketball player to have ever played the game in your collection! I can still see his finger in the air almost guiding the ball to the bottom of the net in that NBA Championship series, Incredible!

A few of baseball’s most marketable superstar players have changed uniforms in the past few months. Hopefully their baseball card prices will move in a positive way. I mean I do not really know what the trade off is between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Angels, but I can tell you that I do not believe the Albert Pujols rookie card will suffer because of it.  Get in on the hottest Fathead products before they sell out!

St. Louis was good for Albert Pujols and Albert Pujols was plenty good for St. Louis. Silly me, a NY Met fan wishing that some how they would have made a play for Albert. But then I shook my head and said, “What the heck am I thinking? We have Ike!”

Actually Ike was turning out to be a solid NY Met, but no Albert by any stretch of the imagination. All things considered, I wish we could trade owners in baseball, because there are a few organizations that really do deserve someone like the Wilpons, but the Met fans do not!

Jose Reyes and his rookie card may stand to see some improvement in the baseball card market, I am not saying that the Miami Marlins are more marketable than the NY Mets, or appealing of a market to attract more respect for his rookie card, but with the combination of a pretty good team that they are in the process of putting together, along with a new stadium that will boast some of the most modern and classy restaurants and establishments and may make the setting for his rookie card to stretch to the 2004 prices that they were  realizing back then. If the Miami Marlins take off and running from the onset, who knows how high his rookie card can get.  Jose Reyes joins a formidable pitching staff led by Josh Johnson, and not Mark Burhle, and then add some of the purest hitters in baseball in Hanley Ramirez, and Gabe Sanchez, and you never can tell.  Besides Jose Reyes can certainly get hot and stay hot, as this last baseball season he almost became the NY Mets first batting champ ever.

Topps Co-Signers has a nice card that is fairly priced on the secondary market featuring the autographs of Hanley Ramirez, as well as that of Jose Reyes. A card that will be high on the collectors in South Miami for sure this upcoming baseball season. Believe it or not, the NY Yankees are not the only team that can enhance the prices of some of these baseball sports cards, this year seems to be lining up to be an interesting baseball season, and a new baseball season always fuels the sporting card interest, and like no other sport I might add.
