Michael Jordan Cards Are Still A Nice Investment

Michael Jordan Cards Are Still A Nice Investment

Michael Jordan Basketball Cards

Michael Jordan was part of the “Big Three”, that kept NBA basketball going. I can’t remember them all, but I want to say it was Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and possibly Charles Barkley. I could be wrong, but I believe that was the talk back then in the 1990’s.

For me as a collector, and I was a huge L.A. Lakers fan, clearly it was Jordan. Fleer Basketball cards, are the corner stone of any Michael Jordan collection, especially in the last 7 years where Star Company basketball cards became non-gradable by most of the legitimate card companies. Counterfeiting was the main reason for the lack of Star Company basketball cards being graded, although I have seen a resurgence of PSA graded Star Company basketball cards of late.

If you wanted to stay on the safe side, I recommend the Fleer Basketball cards and Michael Jordan, the 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card has become the formidable one, putting away 10 of these for a rainy day would be nice, if you can afford graded even better, don’t try going lower than an PSA or BGS 8. If you can find the Michael Jordan Star Company basketball cards graded then by all means, have at them.

Fleer Cards/ Topps Embossed Basketball Cards

Just expect to pay a pretty penny. These cards do not come cheap, there are also a few different versions of the 1986 Star Company Michael Jordan, basketball cards. Try making a nice run of MJ Fleer cards, starting with the rookie and then move on up, there also some nice odd ball cards that should add nice conversational pieces, one of my favorites is the 1996 Topps Embossed Basketball Michael Jordan card, sporting the jersey #18. Nice piece, one to have graded for sure. These have many flaws, so to have a BGS 9.5, or PSA 10 would be noteworthy. The recession might be the right time to start collecting some of the autographed cards that he has signed, I would even try selling some less desirable cards to obtain these. Most of these, depending on the limited amount go for $600.00, those that are not numbered go for about $180.00 to about $250.00

Most of the truly legitimate autographed cards of Jordan come via the Upper Deck company and they are exclusive, there are quite a few limited to the number of his jersey #23. These too are pretty expensive. The range about $800.00. Michael Jordan should be the corner stone of any sports card collection, unless you do not want the greatest basketball player to have ever played the game in your collection! I can still see his finger in the air almost guiding the ball to the bottom of the net in that NBA Championship series, Incredible!

NFL Memorabilia Out Sells The Rest!

NFL Memorabilia Out Sells The Rest!

Downtown Eddie Brown

NFL Memorabilia, my favorite autographed football jersey in my collection. It is not a Dan Marino, or Joe Montana, or even Emmitt Smith, no my favorite jersey bears the name “Brown”. Downtown Eddie Brown. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver that led the Bengals to the 1988 Superbowl against the San Francisco 49ers.

Downtown Eddie Brown was a member of the 1983 Miami Hurricanes football team that upset the University of Nebraska in the 1984 Orange Bowl to earn Miami’s first National Championship ever.
The following year, Downtown Eddie Brown was named as a consensus first-team All-American and was the first WR in UM history to amass over 1,000 yards receiving, with 220 of those yards on only 10 catches that came in the famous “Hail Flutie” shootout with Boston College.

Downtown Brown would leave Miami setting school career records for receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs. Eddie Brown was a first round draft pick in 1985, chosen number 13 over all by those same Cincinnati Bengals. Eddie Brown was taken after Al Toon of the NY Jets and before Jerry Rice, not a bad draft for wide-outs.

Playoff Jersey

About 17 years ago, I was luck enough to have obtained a game used playoff jersey by Downtown Eddie Brown, and have him sign it. Although this is not the most expensive of jerseys, it does have sentimental value, as I attended UM and forever he will be part of the first University of Miami National championship!

In 1985 he won the NFL Rookie of the Year Award, recording 53 catches for 942 yards and 8 touchdowns. In 1988, he recorded 53 receptions for 1,273 yards and 9 touchdowns, assisting the Bengals to a championship appearance in Super Bowl XXIII and earning him his first trip to the Pro Bowl. Downtown Brown continued to play for the Bengals until after the 1991 season. Brown finished his 7 NFL seasons with 363 catches for 6,134 yards and 41 touchdowns, along with 164 rushing yards.

More Marvel Movies Coming Your Way This Summer

More Marvel Movies Coming Your Way This Summer

Marvel Comic Books Dominate Hollywood

Marvel Comic Books, dominating Hollywood and movie makers all over the place. The last time I counted, Marvel comics was taking it to DC comics, and hard. Quite frankly I do not believe that DC comics can compete. Marvel Comics had laid the foundation of their fruits many, many years ago. This did not occur overnight. Hey I paid the price too, watching those early Saturday morning Marvel comic cartoons of the Fantastic Four, Thor, Spider-man. You know the ones I am talking about the still framed comics. Who made those anyway? In one scene, the thing was taking a punch, next scene he is smoking his famous cigar, what happened in between? I know, we were young…I would always look at my brother and say, hey what gives? He would tell me something like, that is how fast he is! Whatever, I did not buy it.

Marvel Comics paid the early price of exposure and now they reap the high rewards, what I need is for the good old comics to make a rebound, not just so that my collection would be worth something again but rather so that this piece of Americana does not get lost! I said to myself, I said self, what can we do to make sure that this art does not get lost. So that Spider-man forever will swing from the highest high-rises that NY City has to offer. Superman will no longer be intimidated by kryptonite, The Fantastic Four find a way to defeat Galactus, and deal with Dr. Doom, you get the picture.

Up to now, It is hard for DC Comics to contend with the likes of those 3 Spider-man movies, I will say it, not even the last Batman movie, It was real good I will give them that, but was I the only one that left the film feeling like the makers of the film did all they could to make Batman the co-star of that movie. It seems like the Joker was the main character and Batman was just along for the ride. Spider-man movies have all been about him and his conflicts and then the villains like Venom, Sand-Man, Dr. Octopus, the Green Goblin come in to his life and just mess things up some more.

The New Superman Movie – Please No Lex Luther!

I believe that Marvel Comics must have been very instrumental in making sure that these characters/Superheroes were kept in the context of the comic books and for the most part, I left those movies feeling that way. Maybe the fact that there are so many more movies from the Marvel Comics side of the comic book world to judge, it would not really be fair to judge. I do have to declare though, that If I see another Superman movie with Lex Luther as the villain, I might hurl a piece of kryptonite at the producers. Superman needs to fight a villain with color, boldness, and some kind of flair, if we can survive another Superman movie. Please!

Marvel Comics, D.C. Comics entertaining families for so long, lets not let this piece of Americana comics history go by the wayside…Read a comic…
